Bringing to light
a very hot topic

Recent natural disasters, such as the 2008 Midwest floods and Katrina and Sandy Hurricanes in the United States, the earthquakes in Sichuan, China ,the Canterbury earthquakes in New Zealand, and a host of other modern natural disasters have all highlighted the vulnerability of even modern infrastructure to natural hazards.

a Game shift

Protecting infrastructure from extreme events calls for an integrated approach to hazard assessment considering the correlated nature of natural hazards, cascading hazards and cascading effects.

In a world of increasingly interdisciplinary research

This conference aims to bring together specialists from different scientific fields in order to promote “out of the box” thinking and cross-fertilization.

Care for the Environment

Each conference delegate will have the option to receive the conference schedule in digital form only (via a smartphone app)  in order to protect the environment from unnecessary printing. This option will be available during registration.

Think those in need

Delegates who do not wish to receive a printed schedule will have the option to donate the cost of printing to UN Humanitarian aid with the intention to contribute to the relief of the current refugee crisis experienced in Europe. The conference organizers will match every individual donation made thereby doubling the available funds. We will also ask all our sponsors to follow us, thus increasing the funds collected by as much as possible. You are encouraged to join our effort using the relevant option during registration.

Donate your bag

Through our partnership with bagstoriches (www.bagstoriches.org ) we intend to collect all conference bags that are no longer needed and ship them to students in need. Bags to Riches is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to making education more accessible to underprivileged youth. They do this by collecting unused and unwanted conference bags and donating them to children across the globe. Bags collection boxes will be available on the last day at the conference venue.
